Do We Communicate with Passed Loved Ones in Dreams?
At face value communicating with the dead sounds utterly creepy. Who really wants to “see or hear” dead people? A strong consensus might say, “Not I.” But that all might change when we lose a loved one and ponder the reality of life after death, or as some people say, life after life.
I remember a time when I was younger and my grandfather passed away. My grandmother mourned unlike I have ever seen anyone mourn. That is, until one day, I went to visit my grandmother and she told me she had a dream. She told me she saw her husband, my grandfather, and had a conversation with him in the dream. My grandfather told my grandmother to not be sad and that everything was going to be okay.
It all sounded very mystical, but the nature of the dream was neither here nor there. The dream soothed my grandmother and gave her a sense of peace. She believed she actually talked to my grandfather – and in her mind, it was so. My grandmother isn’t the only one who has had this experience. Many people around the world claim to communicate with passed over loved ones in their dreams. Its one of those phenomenons that spreads far and wide to the point where it stirs curiosity and begs an explanation.
Well, one man has taken this curiosity to a whole new level by applying it to science. James Twyman is set out to prove the hypothesis that:
“Given openness to the possibility of life after death, we hope to prove that there is a process that can enable the average person to achieve direct contact and communication with another person who has passed away. It is also hypothesized that this communication can take place without an intermediary, e.g. psychic or medium, and can occur face-to-face in the form of a lucid dream.”
Twyman is an internationally renowned, best-selling author, filmmaker and musician who has a reputation for traveling to some of the world’s greatest areas of conflict, sharing his message of peace. Twyman has an interesting background that evoked his curiosity of dreams. On his website he mentions the sequence of events that began his quest to figure out what happens in lucid dreams.
“Over four years ago my former wife, Linda, was murdered in Chicago. The suddenness of her loss initiated a serious inquiry into the process of spirit communication, hoping I might find a way to see her again. Without even realizing it, I found myself in the midst of a face-to-face meeting, initiated through a lucid dream. (A lucid dream is the well-documented process of becoming conscious while in a dream state.) This launched an exhaustive study into the phenomenon, and I soon realized that there is a connection between lucid dreaming and communicating with loved ones.”
Twyman is releasing a book in September titled The Barn Dance, which is based on the mystical experiences he had since the death of my former wife Linda. More information about Twyman and his study are on his website at http://www.dream-dancing.com/.
